Namaste Japan Fest 2021 takes off from March 20, virtual this time

FUKUOKA (JAPAN): The epitome of Indo-Japan cultural exchange and friendship – the annual Namaste Japan Fest is back with a bang in the year 2021, the third year in the row.

Being organized this time on virtual platforms like Facebook, YouTube, Google Meet, and Zoom by the Japan-based Fukuoka Overseas Student Association (FOSA) and Namaste Japan Fest Executive Committee, it is the 3rd edition and is starting on March 20.

The virtual event would have programs around calligraphy, origami, Japanese Kimonos & Yukata, Suji, Rice Ball Making, etc. The artists participating from Japan and India would submit their pre-recorded video footages which will be played during the event. These performances would include Japanese Drum, and Dance and Songs from both countries.

Earlier two events were organized in New Delhi in 2019 and 2020.

The co-organisor of the event is Fukuoka International Exchange Foundation (Plan), and it is being supported by the Consulate General of India – Osaka-Kobe, Namaste Japan Fest, Namaste Fukuoka, and Fukuoka International Student Support Centre (FISSC).

“We and our team of Japanese and Indians have been organizing Namaste Japan Fest in New Delhi for the last two years very successfully, and received a huge response and support from both the communities. But due to Covid-19, we are going to organize this event on virtual platforms and it will be streamed live from Fukuoka on various social media platforms across Japan, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, and other countries as well,” said Dharmendra Kumar, Chairman, Namaste Japan Fest Executive Committee.

Those expected to be participating in the event include Fukuoka International Exchange Foundation Managing Director, Consulate General of India, Japan Foundation Director-General, Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO), Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry in India, CHOYA CO.LTD, Japan Fest Chairperson, Hakata Goryon Josei Organization, Asian Community News (ACN) Founder & Chief Editor.

Last year in February 2020, around 10,000 people visited the Namaste Japan Fest 2020 at the Garden of Five Senses in New Delhi to experience the fusion of Japanese and Indian art, culture, language, food, and friendship.

The Fest had witnessed scintillating performances by the Japanese artists who performed Indian Classical Kathak Dance and while others danced to the tunes of Bollywood numbers. The majority of artists had come from Fukuoka, Japan.

Kenzi Sugino, Secretary-General, Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCII) who was the chief guest of the event, inaugurated the fest with the Indian traditional way of lighting the lamp. Sugino san told the audience that they must visit Fukuoka whenever they visited Japan next as it was a beautiful city.

Other guests on the occasion included Director Fukuoka International Exchange Foundation Ms. Kamori Yukiko, Director Japan Foundation  Kousuke Noguchi, Director JNTO Yuji Ueno, Director of Nihongo Language Center Noriko Nasukawa, and others.
