New Japan Ambassador to follow footsteps of PM Modi & Shinzo Abe, to foster heart-to-heart friendship with India
Having served in high-profile diplomatic positions globally, Ambassador Hiroshi Suzuki worked very closely with PM Abe on responsible positions.
NEW DELHI. Japan’s new Ambassador to India Hiroshi Suzuki (61) – a trusted diplomat of former Japan Prime Minister late Shinzo Abe, has reiterated that following the exceptional friendship Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Abe enjoyed, he, too, would like to foster heart-to-heart friendship with the people of India.
“I would be grateful if you could extend to me your kind support and cooperation,” Ambassador Suzuki said in a message after presenting his credentials to Indian President Droupadi Murmu on November 28. He assumed his post of Ambassador of Japan to India on November 9.
“Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Abe held 15 bilateral summits from 2012 to 2020. I have attended all these meetings as Private Secretary to the Prime Minister and witnessed how much the two leaders respected each other and how they have endeavored hand in hand to dramatically enhance Japan-India partnership.”
Having served in high-profile diplomatic positions globally, Ambassador Hiroshi Suzuki worked very closely with PM Abe on responsible positions. At the PM House, Suzuki worked as a spokesperson for the International Press and as Private Secretary to Prime Minister Shinzo ABE. He was also appointed as an Advisor, Special Secretariat for the State Funeral for Shinzo Abe in July 2022.
“Japan and India share the vision of ‘Free and Open Indo-Pacific’ and have deepened their cooperation under Special Strategic and Global Partnership. In recent years, a number of high-level meetings have been held, such as Japan-Australia-India-U.S.(Quad) Leaders’ Meetings and the Foreign and Defense Ministerial Meetings (“2+2”),” he added.

Ambassador Suzuki said that the cooperation between Japan and India was not only limited to the fields of diplomacy and defense, but also encompassed wide-ranging areas such as investment, business, infrastructure development and human resource development, among others, and many Japanese companies are actively doing business in India.
“I would like to make every effort to facilitate the activities of Japanese companies, including those who are considering to enter into India in the future. I would also like to provide strong support to the Japanese people who have been engaged for many years in promoting grass-root exchanges between Japan and India,” he said.

Ambassador also assured that Japan would cooperate India in playing an important role for the prosperity and development of the world when India achieved Presidency of G20 next month.
“This year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and India, and we celebrate our longstanding friendship together. And next month, India will assume the presidency of the G20. I hope India will play an important role for the prosperity and development of the world. As a friend, Japan will spare no efforts to cooperate towards that end. I deeply appreciate the opportunity to serve as Ambassador of Japan to India at this critical juncture for strengthening Japan-India partnership,” he added.
