Night curfew lifted in Gurugram; malls, shops, cinemas, institutions to open like normal days, no bar on public events
Night curfew in Delhi and NOIDA continues to be imposed. However, Noida might toe the Gurugram line soon while New Delhi is unlikely to take a call on removing curbs even the next week.
Gurugram: The Haryana government on Wednesday evening announced to revoke all the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions imposed earlier including the night curfew in the state.
Now, from the intervening night of February 16 and 17, effective Thursday, neither there will be a night curfew in place in the state nor will there be any time restriction on the opening or closing of shops and other institutions.
The Haryana government on December 31, had clamped night curfew from 11 pm to 5 am to stop people from roaming outside except in case of essential services as Covid-19 positive cases started to surge in the state especially in Gurugram.
However, on Wednesday, the decision of revoking all the Covid pandemic-related restrictions was announced following a continuous decrease in the daily positive cases. A total of 703 new positive cases were reported in Haryana on Wednesday while Gurugram was restricted to 217 new cases the same day.
In a notification issued on Wednesday, Haryana Chief Secretary Sanjeev Kaushal said that all kinds of restrictions are being removed. However, in the letter, an appeal has been made to the people of the state to strictly follow the COVID appropriate behavioral norms including social distancing.
Kaushal, however, advised the people to strictly follow COVID appropriate behavioral norms such as wearing masks and maintaining social distancing in public places.
From Thursday, the malls and shops will be allowed to operate as per the normal days as against the earlier restriction of 7.00 pm closing time.
Initially, the night curfew and others restrictions were imposed in five districts including Gurugram, but later these were implemented in the entire state. Under these restrictions, night curfew was also included in the state from 11 pm to 5 am.
However, the night curfew in Delhi and NOIDA continues to be imposed.
Noida might toe the Gurugram line soon as the number of daily corona-positive cases is reported to be coming down the 1000 mark.
However, New Delhi is unlikely to take a call on removing curbs even the next week when the senior Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) officials meet.
