NEW DELHI: A select group of Indians working in Japan has announced to organize a peaceful protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens (NRC) and National Population Register (NPR) today on Friday near Indian Embassy in Tokyo.

A piece of related information using a poster was flashed on the social networking site Facebook in the “Indians in Japan” group on Thursday evening, which, however, attracted opposing voices too in the favor of CAA/NRC/NPR on the same platform.

It is worthy enough to mention here that earlier too another group of Indians had announced to organize a similar protest in the University of Tokyo campus on December 22 but the event was later canceled without assigning adequate reason by the ‘organizers’ a day before the due date.

Announced earlier, the protest at the University of Tokyo on December 22 was canceled at the last moment.

The announcement of organizing as well as and revocation of this event was made on the Facebook platform only.

The fresh announcement to organize anti-CAA, NRC and NPR came on Thursday when the organizers invited ‘Indians only’ to assemble near the Indian embassy in Tokyo at 15.00 hours.

The Facebook post read, “ We, a group of concerned Indian Citizens will be meeting near Embassy of India, Tokyo tomorrow 27th December at 15:00 to express our unhappiness on the CAA, NRC & NPR laws implemented by Government of India. We believe CAA & NRC are against basic principles of Equality provided by our constitution and supported by Mahatma Gandhi & Dr. BR Ambedkar.”

However, the opposing voices through a poster urged the Indian community to stay away from the protest call and embrace the Indian government’s decision.

“Let’s break the myths of the highlighted post which is quite misleading,” said one post favoring NRC, CAA, and NPR.

“Feel free to set up a round table discussion on this topic instead of indulging in roadside protest in a foreign land,” it added.

This post further stated the reasons for this stand, “Indian Citizens will be meeting near Embassy”.  Instead of seeking an appointment with Embassy to meet and discuss, pamphlet indicates that a bunch of folks want to “protest”. What is a guarantee that Pakis and other anti-Indian elements will not use such roadside protests to tarnish the image of India in a foreign land?”
