Osamu Suzuki Was a Man of Action, a Real Entrepreneur: Kinji Saito

Inspirational Interactive Session Hosted by AMA Celebrates the Life, Leadership, and Legacy of Late Osamu Suzuki, who passed away in Dec 2024.

“Osamu Suzuki was a man of action, embodying the true spirit of entrepreneurship. His philosophy of DPCA—Do, Plan, Check, Act—challenged conventional thinking and encouraged flexibility, innovation, and resourcefulness,” said Kinji Saito, Director of Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan.

Speaking at the inspirational interactive session hosted by the Ahmedabad Management Association (AMA) on January 20, Saito highlighted the transformative global vision of the late Osamu Suzuki, whose pioneering leadership left an indelible mark on the automotive industry and cross-border collaborations.

Kinji Saito with over four decades of close association with Suzuki, presented the key-note address and threw light on the global vision of Osamu Suzuki based on the spirit of real entrepreneur.

“He focused on flexibility of the mind, thinking of countermeasures in a different way than normal people, and realizing the solution with fewer resources,” Saito san added.

Interactive Session on “Osamu Suzuki: Life, Leadership & Legacy”

The session, titled “Osamu Suzuki: Life, Leadership & Legacy,” brought together prominent personalities from India, Japan, and beyond to pay tribute to the legendary leader. Late Suzuki, who passed away in December 2024, was lauded as a visionary whose impact transcended the automotive industry to redefine Indo-Japanese business ties and inspire generations.

A Legacy of Innovation and Excellence

Dr. Hitesh Shukla, a professor at Saurashtra University and an expert on family business and governance, emphasized Suzuki’s philosophy of excelling in markets where success was certain. “Under his inspirational leadership, Suzuki Motor Corporation set milestones in India by adopting the mantra, ‘we will do business where we can be No. 1.’ This legacy will continue to guide future generations,” Dr. Shukla noted.

Dr. Savan Godiawala, President of AMA, reflected on Suzuki’s revolutionary contributions to India’s automobile market. “Osamu Suzuki was a legend in the global automotive industry. His collaboration with Maruti not only transformed the Indian market but also significantly boosted employability, the Indian economy, and sustainable development.”

Mukesh Patel, Honorary Consul of Japan in Gujarat, credited Suzuki with igniting India’s auto industry and reshaping global perceptions of mobility. “His visionary work scaled new heights for the Indian auto industry over the past four decades and strengthened Indo-Japanese business ties. His transformative impact will remain etched in our memories.”

A Symbol of Enduring Indo-Japanese Friendship

Governor of Shizuoka Prefecture, Yasutomo Suzuki, shared a deeply personal account of his relationship with the late Suzuki. “He was like a father to me for over 20 years, offering guidance both personally and professionally. The signing of the Gujarat-Shizuoka Friendship Agreement in December 2024 was a testament to his dedication to fostering goodwill between India and Japan. We will continue his mission to strengthen these ties.”

Japanese Ambassador to India, Keiichi Ono, and Indian Ambassador to Japan, Sibi George, echoed similar sentiments, praising Suzuki’s efforts in nurturing a spirit of inclusivity and cultural understanding. “He respected the diverse workforce and their cultural preferences, creating a legacy that will inspire generations,” noted Amb Ono.

Suzuki’s Transformative Impact on India and Beyond

Former Indian Ambassador to Japan, Sujan R. Chinoy, highlighted Suzuki’s enduring contributions to India’s manufacturing and skill development initiatives. “Under his guidance, Maruti Suzuki India established the Japan India Centre for Manufacturing, promoting vocational training as part of the Skill India Program. His contributions will forever remain a cornerstone of Indo-Japanese ties.”

Hideaki Domichi, former Ambassador of Japan to India, recounted personal interactions with the late patriarch. “Every word he spoke was profound wisdom. His close association with Indian leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demonstrated his commitment to fostering strong bilateral relationships.”

The event concluded with a collective pledge to carry forward Suzuki’s legacy of collaboration, innovation, and excellence, ensuring that his vision continues to shape the future of the global automotive industry and the special strategic partnership between India and Japan.
