NEW DELHI: The 900 km-long venture-based Ideathon – Hack the Innovative Future starting from September 16 between New Delhi and Varanasi has drawn a huge amount of interest from the youngsters from India, especially from Japan.
Interestingly, over 700 youths aged 18-25 from Japan have applied online at https://www.hif.asia/english and the number of youths from India is 3,500 for this grand event in which Japanese and Indian students will embark on a nine-day knowledge and research -based journey.
With just seven days left for the application deadline of July 17 to reach, more and more youths are making beeline to participate in the 9-day Ideathon that will take off from Gurugram/New Delhi to end at Varanasi on September 24.
As Kenji Sugino, Secretary-General, Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry in India (JCCII) puts it, “There were more than double the expected number of applications, over 3,500 from Indian students and 700 from Japanese students.”
“We especially thank the members of Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry in India, universities in Japan and India, and a lot of collaborators who agreed with the purpose of this project and spread the project. They all helped in spreading the word about the Ideathon and motivating them to apply for Ideathon in their respective circles,” said Kenji Sugino.

The JCCII Secretary-General made a special mention of the event’s official Media Partner – Asian Community News (ACN) Network and appreciated it for publishing news articles on “Hack the Innovative Future” and creating awareness amongst the young generation.
However, the overwhelming response from the young generation from Japan for the Ideathon event has surprised all.
“It may seem that there are few students in Japan, but if you compare the number of applicants in terms of the population ratio of each country with the Indian population being 1.4 billion and the Japanese 120 million, the amount of interest the Japanese youths have exhibited for this event is remarkable. It’s a very positive trend the Japanese students have indicated at by showing their rising interest about India,” said Kenji Sugino.

Our staff is screening all applications at the same time. There are many students willing to contribute to the future between India and Japan. Unfortunately, all applicants will not be able to participate, but I am looking forward to meeting and experiencing new things with them.”
