NEW DELHI: Suresh Prabhu, Member of Parliament, India’s Sherpa to G7 and G20, Dr. Guruprasad Mohapatara, Secretary, Department for Promotion of Industry & Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, Sripriya Ranganathan, Ambassador of India to the Republic of Korea, Jae Young Lee, Former Member of the Korean National Assembly and President, KGM Lab, Tae Hee Woo, Vice Chairman, Korean Chamber of Commerce (KOCHAM) along with the CEOs from Korean and Indian companies would participate in the Asian Leadership Conference (ALC) 2020 happening in virtual mode on November 11.
In its bid to catalyze policy level discussions for further strengthening trade and business co-operation between the two countries, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is supporting Chosun Ilbo, a Korean media house and organizer of the event Asian Leadership Conference (ALC) 2020 which is happening on a virtual platform.
Hosted by the Chosunilbo, South Korea’s leading daily newspapers celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, the Asian Leadership Conference (ALC) with the theme “The World After the Coronavirus: Rebuilding Global Leadership for the Next 100 Years”, is the country’s premier international conference where global leaders gather to discuss and provide possible solutions for the pressing issues currently facing the world.
The ALC 2020 would attempt to gather the wisdom of global leaders by hosting the Asian Leadership Conference which would witness former and current heads of state, scholars, global entrepreneurs, and young minds convening to present insightful analyses and profound outlook.
The CII would be co-hosting India focused sessions as part of ALC, wherein senior representatives from Government and Industry from both sides are expected to participate, read a CII statement.
Two of Asia’s largest economies, India and South Korea are all set to enhance their bilateral economic ties to the next level under the strong foundation of the Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CEPA) signed between the two countries a decade ago.
The CII while inviting its member companies to participate in ALC said that looking strategically, the recent downturn in India-China relations and South Korea’s acceptance and participation in the “Quad Plus” (a loosely organized coalition of Australia, India, Japan, the United States, and South Korea) may give both countries diplomatic cover to deepen their bilateral relationship.
“The global economy has seen the worst of times under the ongoing Covid pandemic. To overcome the economic setback and create jobs, South Korean President Moon has announced an economic package that commits more than $130 billion for projects over the next five years. This initiative features a “Digital New Deal” and “Green New Deal,” which offers opportunities for greater interaction and cooperation with India,” said the CII statement.
It further said similarly, Prime Minister Modi, to revive the Indian economy, has advocated greater self-reliance and less dependence on China-driven manufacturing supply chains by boosting domestic production and integrating with new or emerging global supply chains. The South Korean “New Deal” is in sync with India’s plans for digital innovation, smart cities, foreign direct investment (FDI), strategic trade ties in the region and beyond, domestic defense technology production, and sustainable development.
Against this background and to catalyze policy level discussions for further strengthening trade and business co-operation between the two countries, CII is supporting Chosun Ilbo in organizing the Asian Leadership Conference (ALC) 2020 via the virtual platform and would be co-hosting India focused sessions as part of ALC, wherein senior representatives from Government and Industry from both sides are expected to participate.
