New Delhi: Korean Cultural Center India is organizing an online screening of two Korean films on September 4-5 and will discuss the pain of modern Korean history.

The event is the second non-face-to-face film screening event which will feature Kim Hyun-seok’s “I Can Speak” on Saturday, 04th September at 09:00 am, and Cho Jung-rae’s “Spirit’s Homecoming, Unfinished Story” on Sunday, 05th September at 09:00 a.m.

“I Can Speak” and “Spirit’s Homecoming, Unfinished Story” depicts the life journey of women who have lived in turbulent Korean modern history.  “The Story of Homecoming,” tells the realistic story of the wartime Japanese military sexual slavery victims known as ‘comfort women.’ “I Can Speak English,” tells the story of a real-time victim who lives in the current era.

The two films, which connect the past and the present, tell an unfinished story to the audience. The online screening is available on www.kccifilm.in , a dedicated page for the cultural center, and the center is preparing for a variety of movie screenings using online platforms in response to the growing interest in Korean films.

Film Brief There‟s something I have to say and must-hear!

“Ok-boon‟, aka the Goblin Granny, is a feisty, elderly woman who combs through the town for any sign of trouble. Over a span of 20 years, she has filed 8000 complaints to the district office. When “Min-jae‟, a stickler Level 9 civil official, transfers over and asks the unstoppable granny, according to the procedure, to take a number for her complaints, great tension rises. One day, “Ok-boon‟ witnesses “Min-jae‟ speaking English like a native, when she’s disheartened for not improving in English after many years of studying and begs him to teach her. Later, the unlikely duo, with absolutely nothing in common, begin having English lessons. As they spend more time together, they start to understand and communicate with each other and become close like family. Having always wondered why Ok-boon is so bent on learning English, Min-jae later learns that there is something she must say in English.

Brief ‘Spirits’ Homecoming, Unfinished Story’ is a part dramatization and part documentary and the sequel of the film titled ‘Spirit’s Homecoming’. Both these films focus on the Comfort Women issue. During World War II Korean Women were forced to become Comfort Women for the Japanese Army and were sent off to various Japanese-run camps. The film tries to bring to light various forms of abuse faced by these women and their struggles. ‘Spirits’ Homecoming, Unfinished Story’ is our ‘promise’ while ‘Spirits’ Homecoming’ was a ‘record’ and ‘consolation’ for victims.
