Sep 5-29: Seven specially curated films at Japanese Film Festival 2022

NEW DELHI: As part of the celebratory events commemorating the 70th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between Japan and India, the Embassy of Japan, New Delhi and the India International Centre (IIC) are jointly organizing a Japanese Film Festival in September.  The seven specially curated films for the Festival are by well-known Japanese directors and some of these have been screened in national and international film festivals. These films were released between 2005 and 2021 and represent the changing characteristics of Japanese society and lifestyles.

The films will be screened at C.D. Deshmuk Auditorium, IIC at 6:30pm on all days between September 5 and 29.

The schedule and the details of the films are as follows:

Sep 5 (Mon) – Kamome Diner by Naoko Ogigami
The film was shot entirely on location in Helsinki through full cooperation from Finland. Famed Finnish actor, Markku Peltola (The Man Without a Past), appears in a key role.

Sep 8 (Tue) – Key of Life by Kenji Uchida
Racy suspense comedy by director Uchida Kenji, who wowed audiences with his storytelling prowess in After School and A Stranger of Mine, winner of four awards at the Cannes Critics Weeks.

12th Sep (Mon) – Time Scoop Hunter: The Movie by Hiroyuki Nakao
A feature film adaptation of a history-themed educational television series with a mockumentary touch in which a journalist from the future travels through time.

13th Sep (Tue) – Mourning Recipe by Yuki Tanada
A mother leaves behind a “recipe for life,” which revitalizes a family dealing with emotional wounds. Official selection for the 37th Montreal World Film Festival.

21st Sep (Wed) – Where I Belong by Shinji Azuma
Drama adaptation of the bestselling novel by Naoki Prize-winning author Nonami Asa.
Abandoned by his parents as a child, Izumi Shoto targets women and the elderly for robbery and random assaults.

27th Sep (Tue) – Shiori by Yusuke Sakakibara
Revolves around the hardships of a young man specializing in physical therapy is painstakingly depicted with a natural touch.

29th Sep (Thu) – Aristocrats by Yukiko Sode
Shows the lives of two women living in very different worlds in the same city.
