Shah Rukh Khan watches South Korean film Parasite on the recommendation of his children; finds it ‘delightfully discomforting’
NEW DELHI. About 48 hours before the 54th birthday, the Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan, took to micro-blogging sites Facebook and Twitter to announce that he watched the well-known South Korean movie Parasite – a dark comedy thriller, on the recommendations of his children.
However, dubbed as King Khan, Shah Rukh Khan who is scheduled to celebrate his birthday on November 2 – the Friday, found this award-winning South Korean movie a ‘delightfully discomforting film’.
Khan wrote on his social media pages, “Just saw Parasite the South Korean movie on my kids’ recommendation. What a delightfully discomforting film. A bizarre look at social status, the state of the world…and the parasitic nature of the Materialistic Hope we all feed and live off!!”
The film follows a young man from a poor family who begins to tutor a rich family’s daughter and slowly starts to infiltrate their personal lives.
Directed by Bong Joon-ho, the Parasite had its world premiere at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival on 21 May 2019, where it won the Palme d’Or. It became the first Korean film to receive the award and the first film to win with a unanimous vote since 2013’s Blue Is The Warmest Colour. It was also selected as the South Korean entry for Best International Feature Film at the 92nd Academy Awards.
Khan, however, did not mention when and where he saw the movie. He tweeted his feedback at 1.41 am on Thursday, October 31. It indicates that he watched the movie on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday, probably put his feedback on social media immediately after he watched it.
With a fan following of millions on his Facebook and Twitter accounts, Khan was quick to get reactions from his fandom from across the world.
“Dear SRK why Don’t you do such films. You are a Great romantic hero but we would love to see YOU on an action film or a mystery, thriller,” wrote a fan.
Some of the fans suggested Khan make movies like Parasite in India too.
A fan quipped, “I’m glad you saw that. That’s why you need to get rid of Karan Johar and Rohit Shetty from your group and make some meaningful films.. you’re an amazing actor jus choose good movies with better scripts.. you’re fan always.”
Said another one, “My friend also recommend me this movie before, and truly the movie was amazing! I wish Indian films do such types of content.”
“One of the best movies of 2019, I must say. Despite being disturbing, the movie did so spectacular because it really captured the different social classes in South Korea. However, I am sure many can relate. Defo a must-watch” wrote one more fan.
