The one-hour webinar aims at highlighting and bring forth the contribution made by the Government of South Korea, its trade & Industry associations, corporate entities, and the Korean community in the social development and growth of India. A huge amount of work has gone into helping the underprivileged and the poor, especially by the Korean diplomatic and business communities during the lockdown period in India.
As was experienced during the COVID-induced lockdown period, the Korean community in India stepped out of their offices and comfort of homes to help the needy and underprivileged Indians with food and other materials, even while putting their own lives at risk.
This philanthropy movement was spearheaded by H. E. Shin Bong-kil, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea in India in May 2020 when embassy officials along with their family members played the role of Good Samaritans and distributed cooked Indian meals and Korean bread at four stations in New Delhi to more than 4,000 under-privileged people.

The ROK Government through its Korean embassy in India also launched [#StayStrongCampaign] and donated masks and other materials in India during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Likewise, the Korean Association in India that represents about 15,000 Korean nationals, led by Mr. Euy Don Park also distributed food items and other things among the poor people in New Delhi’s satellite towns – Gurugram and Noida. Other chapters of the Association also did launch similar drives in many other cities across India.
Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KOCHAM) represented by Mr. Hee-chul Jung created virtue consumption during the lockdown period and its members went on a buying spree to boost the consumption of products and services in India. They purchased food and other items much more than they required for their own needs for distributing the same to the poor. Headquartered in Gurugram, KOCHAM represents 750 Korean companies in India and its operations run through Korea International Trade Association (KITA) secretariat. Representing almost the entirety of Korea’s international trade community, KITA is Korea’s one of the largest umbrella economic organizations and it has more than 70,000 member firms spread across the world.
The webinar aims at recognizing and giving voice to the exemplary work being done by the Republic of Korea that directly contributed to the inclusive growth of India, and therefore require the due attention and appreciation too.
