South Korean First Lady to attend festivities in Ayodhya next week

Kim Jung-sook, the First Lady of the Republic of Korea will visit India for four days on November 4-7.

Leading a high-level delegation, she will attend the Deepotsav – an event being organised by the State Government of Uttar Pradesh and the ground-breaking ceremony of the Queen Suriratna (Heo Hwang-ok) Memorial in the religious city of Ayodhya on November 6, the eve of country’s grand festival Deepawali, also known as festival of lights.

The Korean first lady is visiting India at the invitation of the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, a Ministry of External Affairs of India press release stated.

Ayodhya and Korea have a deep historical connection through the legendary Princess Suriratna of Ayodhya, who traveled to Korea in 48 CE and married Korean King Suro.

India and Republic of Korea share a Special Strategic Partnership. Moon Jae-in, President of Republic of Korea had visited India in July 2018. His visit had imparted new strength to our evolving partnership, an MEA statement said.

The First Lady’s participation in the festivities in Ayodhya will showcase our close civilisational links as well as the ongoing deepening engagement between our two countries.
