Startups, Industry Experts, Investors make it big at startupWinc 2020

20 selected startups, 8 speakers, and 42+ investors and backers took part in the 6-day startupWinc 2020 – and 7 of them are in talks with investors already.

NEW DELHI: The startupWinc 2020 took off on 15th September, with a welcoming notion talk Prof. H P Mathur of IM-BHU, followed by a motivating and moving session by Prof S K Dubey, The Director of IM-BHU. Speaking of the pandemic and its effect on the business world, Balasubramanian Venkatesh, Group CEO of Compunet Connections and Chief Guest of the inaugural ceremony said, “For the true entrepreneur, COVID-19 is a golden opportunity to turn an adversary into an opportunity, and you shouldn’t miss it!”

Later on, Sanjay Enishetty, the MD & CEO of 50K Ventures, delivered a session on “Fundraising for startups”, which laid out how entrepreneurs can better their chances of securing an investment.

On day two, Balasubramanian Venkatesh delivered a session on the “Growth hacks for startups”. He shared his six key-point-system that can make or break a startup. In the evening session, Puja Atre – the Founder of the Indian Academy of Venture Capital – explain the valuation and fundraising process of a startup. She also shared the tips to create and deliver the best pitches, so the participating entrepreneurs could better prepare themselves.

On day three, Terilee Harrison, Global Online Director of Team Referral Network, delivered a session on “Art of Virtual Networking” and how it can help someone grow, both as an entrepreneur and a person.

Then, Abhinav Pandey, The Vice President of Startup Strategy at iB Hubs, delivered a session on “Idea generation and valuation”. According to him, it is much better to converse with your potential customer than to have them fill in a questionnaire.

On day four, Sarath S Nair, a Scientist & Engineer E from Dept.of Medical Devices Engineering, Biomedical Technology Wing, SCTIMST (Govt. of India) delivered his session on “Medical device technology in India”. He shared his views and data on the current status of medical device technology within the country and also what it takes to change it.

Speaking of “Regulatory framework of medical devices in India”, Amrutha C., Scientist C (Medical Device Regulation), Department of Medical Device Engineering, BMT Wing, SCTIMST (Govt. of India), shared the exact steps a medical device must go through before it is approved for use within India. She also shared how SCTIMST-TIMed is helping to evolve the breakthrough MedTech products in India.

Later on, Neelanjana Choudhury – Founder of MetaSkills Recruitment & Training Consulting – delivered a session on “Acing remote interviews and virtual hiring”. She explains how an entrepreneur can conduct better and effective interviews in a virtual setting. While answering a query, she also shared how entrepreneurs can better prepare themselves for the pitch, “Confidence is the key.”

On day 5 and 6, i.e. 19th and 20th September 2020, the selected startups presented their ideas before the visiting investors and backers, which included Sanjay Enishetty of 50K Ventures, Kiran C of Ivy Cap, Vineet Khurana, and Mehekdeep Kaur of Chandigarh Angle Network, Sandro Stephen of Indian Angel Network, and multiple angel investors from different parts of the nation.

“The past week was a blast!” said Ankita, the co-founder, and COO of Sponsoria, which is organizing startupWinc 2020, in association with Spontop and AIC-BHU, “Our team is working hard. Day and night! Especially, Minakshi who has been amazing throughout the event.”

“It’s actually gotten better than we had planned.” – explained Abhishek Srivastava, the CEO of Sponsoria, “We have already received positive responses for a few of our selected startups, and we look forward to taking this initiative at new heights in the near future.”

Speaking of the event, Paritosh Tripathi, the CEO of AIC-MFIE-IM-BHU, shared his views with the entire organizing team, “I cannot help but congratulate and appreciate all the efforts that Team Sponsoria has put into this initiative. One of our incubated startups has already received a call from prominent venture capital, so yes, we are excited!”
