Successful GKS India Orientation Programme 2024 Strengthens India-Korea Ties

Organized by the GKS India Alumni Association in collaboration with the Korean Embassy, the virtual event welcomed 120 participants, including new GKS scholars and alumni, fostering cultural exchange and academic excellence.

The GKS India Alumni Association (GKSIAA), in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, successfully organized the GKS India Orientation Programme for the fresh batch of Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) recipients from India. The event was conducted online and witnessed the participation of 120 attendees, including the new GKS scholars and members of the GKS India Alumni Association.

The programme began with a warm welcome address delivered by Dr. Satyanshu Srivastava, President of the GKS India Alumni Association.

In his address, Dr. Srivastava congratulated the new scholarship recipients, acknowledging their hard work and the promising journey that lies ahead. He emphasized the significance of their role as cultural ambassadors and encouraged them to make the most of this unique opportunity to foster stronger ties between India and Korea. Dr. Srivastava also thanked the government of Korea for selecting 110 GKS students from India this year which is so far the highest ever number of GKS recipients selected from India. This is a testament to growing India-Korea relations.

Following the welcome address, Ms. Jee Hyesoo, Second Secretary and In-charge of Education at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, delivered the congratulatory remarks. Ms. Jee expressed her pride in the continued collaboration between India and Korea through the GKS programme and highlighted the importance of cultural exchange and academic excellence in strengthening bilateral relations.

The orientation also featured insightful sessions by GKS Mentors, Ms. Kritika (Sogang University) and Mr. Yuvraj (Kyungpook National University), who shared their personal experiences and offered practical guidance to the GKS-2024 recipients.

The duo provided valuable tips on adjusting to life in Korea, covering essential aspects such as cultural etiquette, academic expectations, and day-to-day living. Their guidance aimed to ensure a smooth transition for the new scholars as they embark on their academic journey in Korea.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Juhi Mendiratta, Secretary of GKSIAA, who expressed her gratitude to all participants, speakers, and the Embassy of the Republic of Korea for their unwavering support in making the orientation a success. GKSIAA members, Mr. Mukesh Kumar Jaiswal, Mr. Sanjay Jha, Mr. Krishna Gopal Gokhle, Dr. Thiyam General, Ms. Deepshikha, Ms. Surabhi Kulkarni, Dr. Shahid Imran, Dr. Ravi Kumar Ranjan, Dr. Anshuman Tomar and Dr. Kesavan joined the programme and encouraged the fresh GKS batch.

The GKS India Alumni Association boasts of 450+ members that constitute a rich pool of scholars, academicians, scientists, entrepreneurs and business executives performing key roles in not just India and Korea but many other countries around the globe.

Every year the GKSIAA hosts the GKS India Symposium  and an orientation program for the GKS recipients to help them make their move to Korea a bit easier.

The objective of the association is to promote and foster mutually beneficial interaction between the alumni, experts from different domains and the NIIED. To exchange professional knowledge by means of conferences and symposiums etc. for greater India-Korea bilateral relations. To encourage alumni to render guidance to aspirants from India for the GKS program and also share their experiences and nostalgia about Korea.

The GKS India Orientation Programme 2024 provided a comprehensive overview of what the new scholars can expect during their stay in Korea, equipping them with the knowledge and resources needed to thrive in their new environment.
