Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre in India inks pact with Mahatna Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University (MJPRU), UP to start Mandarin

LUCKNOW: With the aim of strengthening bilateral academic relations, Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University and the Education Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre in India (TECC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on October 28 in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh in the presence of Representative of TECC, Ambassador Baushuan Ger.

Delegates from TECC including Ambassador Baushuan Ger; Director of the Education Division, Peters Chen; Director of the Science Division, Prof. Wang; along with Secretary Ellie Chiang and Jen-Chun Tsai graced the occasion.

The MoU was signed by Vice-Chancellor of the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University, Prof. P K Singh, and Director of the Education Division, Peters Chen. The collaboration sets a significant milestone for closer academic collaboration between India and Taiwan.

Under the agreement, Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University will host a Mandarin language teacher from Taiwan at their campus to offer Chinese language classes to its students and provide information regarding studying in Taiwan.

The Mandarin teacher acts as a bridge between the Host University and Educational Institutions in Taiwan and helps facilitate communication between the two. Furthermore, students can also get relevant information regarding available scholarships and other opportunities to pursue their further studies in Taiwan.

Ambassador Baushuan Ger, appreciated Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for the remarkable work the government has done to ensure the progress of the state and expressed how honoured he felt to work with a university that caters to more than 5 Lakh students in disciplines ranging from science and technology to humanities and social sciences.

The Ministry of Education Taiwan awards scholarships to meritorious Indian students every year and we sincerely welcome Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University students to apply for the scholarship and pursue their higher studies in Taiwan. At the same time, the Director of the Education division, Peters Chen also hopes to see more Taiwanese students coming to India in the coming years with an emphasis on humanities, languages, social sciences, history, and new research regarding smart agriculture and green energy.

The Education Division, TECC has been actively working for the past 2 years to strengthen Taiwan’s academic relations with Indian Institutions. With that goal, Education Division has collaborated with campuses all around the country, in hopes of encouraging bilateral exchanges for Indian students, and has set up Taiwan Education Centres on many campuses. The one at the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University will be the 22nd Taiwan Education Centre.

Taiwan’s Southbound policy and India’s National Education Policy 2020, have coincided to present new opportunities for collaboration between India and Taiwan especially in the fields of education. There is an increasing interest among Indian students these days to go to Taiwan for Master’s and Ph.D. programmes, while Taiwan also welcomes school students to have exchange programmes between two sides.  Base on the network of educational institutions in UP, more students, and young talents could also benefit from this partnership.
