NEW DELHI: The Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre in India (TECC) and Chandigarh University entered a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on September 26, 2021, to set up a Taiwan Education Centre at the university campus.
Taiwan’s representative Ambassador Baushuan Ger and Chancellor of Chandigarh University, S. Satnam Singh Sandhu witnessed the signing of the MoU by the Director of the Education Division, TECC, Peters Chen, and Sr. Vice President Ms. Himani Sood.
Delegates from TECC, including Director of Science Division Prof. Wang, and Secretaries Ellie Chiang and Charles Cheng also attended the ceremony.
The MoU envisages strengthening the bilateral relations between India and Taiwan through facilitating academic cooperation, student exchange, and research collaboration among students and faculty members. Under the agreement, Chandigarh University will establish a Taiwan Education Centre and host a Mandarin-language Teacher from Taiwan at their campus to offer Chinese language classes to its students.
In his remarks, Ambassador Baushuan Ger mentioned how “the focus would be to equip students with Mandarin language skills and organizing the Chinese language test, to help them get access to employment opportunities in Taiwanese companies in India as well as Taiwan.”
The Mandarin teacher would act as a bridge between TECC’s Indian partner and Taiwan’s academic institutions. He further added,” With this MOU, we would like to expand collaboration on both sides in terms of facilitating student exchange programs, faculty exchange, and increasing internship opportunities especially in the fields of Hospitality and Hotel Management”.
Chandigarh University is a highly internationalized academic institution located in Punjab. The university has been accredited status ‘A+’ by the NAAC and offers more than 40 courses in various disciplines including engineering, management, cognitive sciences, education, animation and multimedia, and so on.
With over 300 partnerships with universities around the world, it is a leading example of the internationalization of the Indian higher education system. They have previously collaborated with 18 Taiwan universities, including Tamkang University, National Dong Hwa University, National Taipei University of Education, I-Shou University, and so on. With this MOU, both sides hope to have a more concrete partnership, particularly in research.
