Taiwan to focus on Buddhism, Yoga exchange with Shoolini University

SOLAN, Himachal Pradesh: Shoolini University has opened its Taiwan Education Centre (TEC) at its campus in Solan, Himachal Pradesh. Along with a Taiwanese teacher at the center, it provides Mandarin language courses and scholarship information to its students.

While welcoming the Ambassador of Taiwan, Baushuan Ger, Director of the Education Division, Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India, Peters Chen and Secretary Ms. Jen-Chun Tsai on May 9, Chancellor Dr. P.K. Khosla of Shoolini University and Vice Chancellor Prof. Atul Khosla appreciated the support from Taiwan and pointed that Hindi and Mandarin will be the most important language in the future.

The course just reopened recently and Chancellor expected more students to take the Mandarin course.

VC Prof.  Atul Khosla said that he was considering making Mandarin courses compulsory for MBA programmes, which would benefit students more for the future internship and job opportunities.

Shoolini University is a research the and innovation-led campus that kindles great ideas and inspires out-of-the-box thinking. It has established successful tie-ups with 190+ universities all across the globe.

Ambassador Baushuan Ger pointed out, “Taiwan Education Center aims to provide Mandarin courses and expand opportunities for students from both sides by supporting multilateral relationships among universities. With this centre, both hope to have a more concrete partnership.”

The natural surroundings, cutting-edge facilities, labs and library at Shoolini University can attract more Taiwanese students to come.

“Considered as the birthplace of Indian culture, the Himalayas with cool summers and pleasant sunny winters are the ideal destination for pursuing yogic practices and scientific research. For short term exchange programme, we may help to promote Buddhism, Yoga and meditation programme to Taiwan’s universities or groups. They can stay in the Yogananda Ville for 2 or 3 weeks for the learning of ancient Indian knowledge,” said Peters Chen.

Delegation of TECC also had interaction with students in Mandarin. The students only have had on-site courses for a few weeks and now they can introduce themselves in Mandarin Chinese. Vice Chancellor Prof. Atul Khosla appreciated the Taiwanese teacher’s efforts and encouraged more students to take this course.

Taiwan’s Ministry of Education has been actively working for the past 3 years to strengthen Taiwan’s academic relations with Indian Institutions. The MoU with Shoolini University was signed in 2020 and had the opening ceremony after the pandemic. During the past 2 years, 7 Taiwan’s universities had signed sister university MoUs with Shoolini University. Peters Chen, Director of the Education division, encourages more Indian institutes and students to consider Taiwan for their global partnership in terms of further studying or establishment of Taiwan Education Centre.
