NEW DELHI: India’s premium engineering college The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has proposed to build more academic cooperation with Taiwan universities in terms of problem-solving oriented research.

This was disclosed during the 2nd India-Taiwan Seminar that was jointly organized by IITD and Taiwan at former’s campus on August 2.

The seminar was initiated by the Education Division of Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre in India (TECC).

TECC invited seven professors from Taiwan’s five universities to have an academic discussion with professors of IITD during this seminar, focusing on the theme: “Better Technology, Better Life: Agriculture, Food and Water Safety, and Photomechanics”.

The seminar was co-hosted by Prof. Sanjeev Shanghi of IITD and Peters Chen from TECC.

“Taiwan’s academic research emphasizes on university social responsibility (USR). The application of research performance on daily life is one of the approaches of USR we are promoting in Taiwan,” said Peters Chen.

Prof. Subrat Kar, Head of Center for Sensors, Instrumentation and Cyber-Physical Systems Engineering in IIT Delhi,  looked highly interested in the application of intelligent agriculture and circular economy implementation by National Pingtung University of Science & Technology.

Prof. Pomin Li from Pin Tech elaborated that highly efficient smart environmental control systems that used advanced automation components along with big data analyses were able to replace human effort.

“Through apps, real-time monitoring and management can be performed on mobile via the cloud and the data collected can be used to perform big data analyses to conduct evaluations on fertilization effectiveness, pest and disease prevention,” he added.

In terms of water purification, Dr. S. K. Tyagi from Centre of Energy Studies sought to cooperate with Taiwan’s universities on biomass-solar hybrid system combined cycle with waste heat energy storage.

In addition, Prof. Vinoth Kumar form Dept. of Medicinal and Applied Chemistry, Kaohsiung Medical University, had a presentation on “Analysis of Food and Water Safety and Challenges in Emerging Countries”.

Prof. Wei-Chung Wang, Director, Center for India Studies, National Tsing Hua University elaborated on “Photomechanics and Academia-Industry collaboration”.

Peters Chen also invited Associate Prof. Bharati Puri, Department of humanities and social science, to work with partner universities in Taiwan to explore interdisciplinary cooperation.

TECC welcomed universities/schools to co-host the India-Taiwan seminar on certain topics in the future in order to strengthen bilateral collaboration in education, said Peters.
