Taiwan’s TECC inks pact with EFLU Hyderabad to teach Mandarin to its students
The TECC would not only appoint a native mandarin teacher at the university campus but also facilitate students and teachers exchange programmes between India and Taiwan
New Delhi/Hyderabad: The Hyderabad-based English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) has tied up with Taiwan’s would Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre (TECC) in India to teach Mandarin Chinese language to its students from the current session.
The TECC would not only appoint a native mandarin teacher at the university campus but also facilitate students and teachers exchange programmes between India and Taiwan.
A Memorandum of Understanding to this effect was signed between two sides in Hyderabad on Friday.
Peters LY Chen, the Assistant Representative and Director of Education Division, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre in India, and Prof. E. Suresh Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of the English and Foreign Languages University, and Member UDC signed the MoU on the behalf of their respective organisations.
According to the MoU, a Mandarin teacher from Taiwan will be appointed in EFLU to teach Mandarin Chinese language to the students who also can act as a mediator for students between Taiwan and India. The teacher will also provide all the necessary information regarding scholarships to students.
The EFLU Vice-Chancellor and UGC Member, Prof. E Suresh Kumar said that the MoU will facilitate Mandarin learning taught by a native teacher from Taiwan, and student exchange, faculty exchange between two sides. He also mentioned that students with proficient Mandarin Chinese skills will have more job opportunities in the future.
Peters LY Chen, Director of Education Division, TECC, who is also an honorary board member of ACN Editorial Advisory Board, the Asian value and Asian languages promoting think tank, explained the emerging role of the East Asian languages in shaping the careers of Indian students in the wake of the increasing influx of companies invested from Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan into India.

He especially emphasized the core power of the country that English and Foreign Languages University holds in India as it is the most important university in the area of language education, pedagogical and evaluative methods, material production, the sciences of linguistics and phonetics, in English and foreign languages.

This MoU signing ceremony was in the presence of Director of Science Division TECC Dr. Chin–Tsan Wang, Associate Director of Science Division TECC Ms. Ellie Chiang, and EFLU’s Prof. Revathi Srinivas, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. T Samson, Dean of Academics, Prof. K. Narasimha Rao, Registrar I/C, Prof. Syed Jahangir, Dean of the School of Arab and Asian Studies, Prof. T. Srivani, Dean of Ramesh Mohan Library, Assistant Professor Somya Nayak, the Chinese language Department and other faculty members.
This MoU signing ceremony with Taiwan marked another milestone for the English and Foreign Languages University to emphasize East Asian languages, which are practical languages for the younger generation to look for a potentially better job with professional language skills. This also meets the goal of Prime Minister Modi’s Skill India and Act East policy.
