Viet-Nom, a delightful epicurean odyssey from Vietnam; Delhi NCR’s first authentic Vietnamese Bar & Dining arrives in Gurugram
NEW DELHI. The rich cultural journey of Vietnam from pre-historic times to the present day has critically influenced the palate of its people. And India – a home for global citizens, especially the Asians is no exception.
Recently opened Viet-Nom, Delhi NCR’s first authentic Vietnamese Hip Bar & Dining, encapsulates the rich spirit of Vietnamese culture. In no time, this 120-cover fine dining joint remains thronged by Indians, and also gourmets from expat communities like Japanese, Koreans, Chinese as well as Europeans.
Owing to a balance of nutrients like water, minerals, carbohydrates, protein and fat, the Vietnamese food is measured as one of the healthiest cuisines across the globe.
From hunting to domesticating the wild and to the mass-produced era of globalization; seasoned food critic Rupali Dean tried to pour the history of this nation and its nostalgia for traditional dishes into every aspect – sight, smell and savour – of this delectable cuisine.
Rupali traveled to Vietnam extensively to study the nuances of Vietnamese food, and her hard work aptly reflects her signatures in the elaborate menu.
Vietnamese food is one of the most varied and seductive ones to be created in this world – a delicious mix of colonial influence and age-old native flavours and techniques.
A typical Vietnamese meal may include soup, rice, grilled or steamed meats, a vegetable dish, fresh fruit, and salad; the restaurant aims to bring out all of these different components to your plate. This has come together as a result of influence from climate, trade, history and immigration, key factors that have affected the culture.
Situated in one of the prime locations in Gurugram – Cyberhub – the restaurant reflects the experiences of its owners as they explored the country to absorb the original Vietnamese ethos through its unique and mostly undiscovered gastronomy to reflect it in their own recreations.
She relished some of the most renowned Vietnamese dishes that have inspired their menu to include Lemongrass pork skewers also known as Banh hoi thit nuong, and pancakes filled with shrimp and pork, known as Banh xeo. You can also expect to see more quirky dishes like white rose dumplings or banh bao banh vat, shrimp mousse on sugarcane skewers, Hoi An chicken rice and Com Ga Hoi An.
Viet-Nom is the brainchild of Manish Sharma, a seasoned restaurateur who has already tasted success with signature restaurants Molecule and Drunken Botanist. With Viet-nom, he forays into the space of premium dining through specialized cuisine that brings selected favorites from vibrant Vietnam by offering quintessential dishes made from ingredients as ordinary as fish sauce, sugar, and rice.
Besides a wide range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, the Viet-Nom is the first to introduce Vietnamese coffee to the curious Delhiites, which is recommended to be enjoyed with Banh Tieu Donuts. Not only this, their bar is inspired by Vietnamese and Asian classics with modern infusions for a tipsy thrill. One can sense a mix of the colonial and contemporary feel of the country in every sip.
Inspired by art melded with funky and earthy hues, Viet-Nom boasts intricate and soulful interiors, art oozes out of resplendently painted walls, and pops of yellow and green are splattered throughout the décor, enhancing the cozy seating space for guests. Viet-Nom’s beautifully designed alfresco dining area and fully decked bar churn out exotic delights and drinks reminiscent of Vietnam.
