Vivekananda College to organize National Seminar on “Environment and Urban Ecosystem: From Individual to Ecological” on Wednesday.
The one-day seminar intends to focus on various aspects associated with Urban Ecosystem and aims to figure out tangible action points which may become instrumental in improving the overall quality of life in urban spaces.
NEW DELHI: In its bid to figure out tangible action points which may become instrumental in improving the overall quality of life in urban spaces, the Department of Environment and Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Vivekananda College, University of Delhi has announced to organize a National Seminar titled as “Environment and Urban Ecosystem: From Individual to Ecological” this Wednesday on September 30, 2020.
This one-day seminar that also aims at focusing on the various aspects associated with Urban Ecosystem will provide a platform to stakeholders from the academia, industry, public sector, and media to come together and deliberate on the core areas of ecological change from individual and social perspectives, said Dr. Hina Nandrajog, Officiating Principal, Vivekananda College, New Delhi.
Incidentally, the Vivekananda College is also celebrating the year 2020 as the Golden Jubilee year as its inception happened in 1970.
While delving further on the concept behind organing this virtual event, Dr. Nandrajog said, “The core objective of the seminar is to unravel the three spheres of the urban ecosystem – (a) the Natural Environment (b) the Built Environment and (c) the Socio-Economic environment, in order to improve the overall quality of life in urban spaces. Unhealthy urban ecosystems can lead to local and global environmental degradation, economic decline, health hazards, and further disconnection from nature.”
The eminent speakers who are joining the seminar include C R Babu, Professor Emeritus and Former Pro-Vice-Chancellor, University of Delhi as the chief guest, Dr. Raju Evr, Domain Expert – Environment and Sustainable Development, Ministry of Coal, Dr. Reena Sethi, Former Director, Minister of Civil Aviation and Specialist – Governance and Change Management, Chetan Pathak, Program Manager, BSES, Delhi, and Sanjeev K Ahuja, Editor, Asian Community News (ACN) Network.

On this occasion, the Vivekananda College, University of Delhi has announced to present Best Paper Award for which it has invited Research Papers two categories, Faculty/ Research Scholars/ Scientists and Undergraduate and Postgraduate students.
The paper adjudged best in terms of its methodological scope and thematic amplitude will be awarded the Best Paper Award for Category I and II. All participants under category I and category II will be awarded a paper presentation/participation certificate.
The event would take off with the introduction of the Seminar by Dr. Seema Sharma followed by the keynote address by the Chief Guest – C. R. Babu, Professor Emeritus & Ex-Pro-Vice-Chancellor, University of Delhi. The occasion would also witness the launch of the Green Auditing Training Module by Dept. of Environment, Vivekananda College.
The first half of the seminar consists of a panel discussion on “Roles and Responsibility of Academia, Industry, Policy, and Media in Current Discourse of Urban Ecosystem and the Way Forward”. To be moderated by Dr. Seema Sharma, the session would witness the participation of panelists C. R. Babu, Professor Emeritus & Ex-Pro-Vice-Chancellor, University of Delhi. Sections 3 & 4 of the seminar that would be chaired by Dr. Reena Sethi and Radhika Srinivas, Associate Professor, Vivekananda College respectively would witness Research paper presentation by faculties, research scholars, and scientists as well as by postgraduate and undergraduate students.
